South Korea 1992

We lived in Seoul for 6 weeks. It was an interesting place. The people were lovely, friendly and helpful. The underground was efficient, language was difficult and people seemed to work long hours and live in small confined spaces.

Sadly there is not much left of the “old Korea” with much of it being destroyed by the Japanese. Not sure there was much love lost between the two nations!

Seoul – a sprawling city of high rise after high rise
An old traditional house – very few left
We hunted about Seoul and found a few
There are some lovely parks to visit
Beautiful Autumn colours
Perfect reflection

Kimchi is the local staple food. Koreans go to the markets and buy the product to then make their own Kimchi. Cabbage is the main ingredient.

Selling produce in bulk on the side of the road
Anyone for dried squid?
Like the rest of Asia food is sold everywhere – age is no barrier
Two fine Korean gentlemen
Part of the wedding party
Seoul Disneyland – without the crowds!

Seoul was an interesting place – kind of caught between the East and the West.

It seemed to have lost some of its identity – maybe that is harsh and it needs another visit!
