England 1987/88

We loved our time living and working in London. We enjoyed exploring in the weekends in and around London. There is so much to see and do within a relatively short distance. We were astounded, that the English we worked with, hadn’t visited many of the lovely places which were on their doorstep.

The villages, the cobblestone streets, the old pubs, the history, the small country lanes -we loved it.

Rye East Sussex- outside the Mermaid Inn where even Helle had to duck to get through the door!
The old Rye prison

Suffolk- North of London known for all its pink houses

We love a good thatched cottage
Isn’t this just so dainty

We stayed in a small village called Kersey in Suffolk

We stayed in some great little B & Bs. Check out the cars of the 80s! We had an Austin Allegro – a piece of crap!

But it got us from A to B just!

Cornwall and Devon were probably our favourite areas. We visited a couple of times and the villages are just so charming.

First time we visited was with an old school mate Jack and Helle.

Port Isaac – the village setting for the TV series Doc Martin
Our guest house – Port Issac
The Coastline was rugged
Bath Somerset
King Arthurs Castle – what is left of it
Clovelly – a busy spot but lovely
Buck and his harem
We loved the old pubs
No idea where this is but we stayed here
and here – we loved all the B & Bs
The lovely town of Lynton in Cornwall
This could be Shakespeares house?
Pixies House – Cornwall
An impressive castle – somewhere South of London
York Minster – before the fire – 1986
Top Tudor Pub in York
The Lakes District – Spring is lovely in the UK
Reminded us of NZ
We didn’t stay here – a bit beyond our budget!
The lovely colour of spring – Buck, Helle and Janine
New Forest – wild ponies
Just another fab house
London

We just loved London – the parks, iconic sights, gardens, pubs, live theatre, the tube, buses, cabs, historical buildings and of course Wimbledon.

Wimbledon – we caught the first tube to line up in 1988
Even kept the ticket!
Close up and personal with some of the greats of the game
Wimbledon Champion – Stefan Edberg beat Boris Becker
Harrods
Camden Market – more friendly to my wallet
Loved all the parks and gardens in London
Kew gardens – the great English weeping willow
Friends Kathy and Chris photographing Hampton Court
Hampton Court – home of Henry VIII
A young Etonian with Helle and her Mum.
Punting – Kiwis lowering the tone
Rocky – punting Lisa and Helle
Hyde Park – A must see iconic park

6 of us loaded in a van in winter and headed to Scotland for New Year

BK, Buck and I
A gloomy Loch Ness
We were all wrapped up but it was a great trip

We loved our time in the UK, working in London and exploring all the wonderful places in and around London.

Every young Kiwi should do it!
