We had a few days in Sicily back in 1992. What a wonderful place!
The history, architecture, culture, coastline, small villages, Mt Etna and the countryside were fantastic. We visited over Easter and were reminded of the significance of Easter.

Magnificent architecture in Catania

We always love to hire a car and explore the countryside.
Our cheap little rental did the trick – Mt Etna in the distance

Not too much action on Mt Etna in 1992

A herdsman with his flock

Not only sheep wandering the streets

Some awesome towns enroute across Sicily

Great vistas to enjoy a wine

A village on the hillside

We always enjoy checking out the local markets

The local butcher

On Good Friday we stayed in a small town Cefalu on the West Coast. A top spot nestled up in the hills overlooking the water.

We didn’t really know how Christians celebrated the meaning of Easter until we got to Sicily. We witnessed a procession through the town from the town square – carrying a life size body of Jesus. People were crying and singing. It was a moving experience.

We loved all the old towns and narrow streets built around the hills on the coastline.

Spectacular views from many vantage points

We will go back in our retirement to Sicily – we only scratched the surface and loved our short time there.
